Tanzania 4 councils have been accused of being dishonest
Four councils (4) have been accused of paying more than Tshs 785 million shillings through the Equip-T project for carrying out various educational activities in the councils.
That was stated by the Minister of State Office of the President of the Regional Administration and Local Government Hon. Selemani Jafo while speaking to journalists on suspicions of honesty at a meeting held at the Headquarters of Dynamics, Dodoma
He has identified Councils that have used the funds to be a Kigoma municipality, Butiama, Liwale and Bahi where the council has not been able to recover the funds since now.
Hon. Jafo said OR-TAMISEMI ordered eight councils who were accused of fraudulent repayment, but only eight councils have returned the funds at a time and the rest of the disciplinary proceedings have been ignored by ignoring the Government's orders.
"It is sad to see some of the Councils fail to comply with the government's mandate for the councils accused of fundraising Equipt T to refund the funds so that they can implement educational projects in the country," he said.
He further explained that he was further suspended by Kigoma City Ujiji and Butiama because he had a lot of suspicion of financial fraud of various projects being implemented in the Council.
Hon. Jafo has advised Councils that have not yet completed the funds to ensure that they are submitted before 28/3/2014.
He has directed the relevant authorities to take disciplinary action and challenge the Planning Officer, Treasurer and Director of the Butiama District Council for failure to fulfill their obligations.
Hon. Jafo asked the relevant authorities to conduct an investigation by the former Director, instructing the Secretary-General OR-TIMMEM to take action on the Treasury of the Bahi Said Said Ishabairu Council who was transferred to the Iringa Municipal Council.
"There has been a tendency for some workers to be relocated to workplaces when they make a mistake, this is not a good thing The government will not tolerate but will take action on disciplinary action against all the Government wherever they will be."
He has also ordered the relevant authorities to search for the former Kigoma Ujiji Municipal Treasurer who is currently retired to be interviewed for such charges.
Jafo added that the Government would not tolerate any of the factors that lead to suicide in the whole issue of serving Tanzanians, so that all directors in the LGAs have followed the rules, regulations and procedures set out in the use of funding for various development projects.
Jafo finished with ordering Deputy Minister. Waitara's direct supervision of education projects and to look at how the funds used in the projects are in place. He said he would act very seriously.
